Our beginners guide to floristry is a jam packed five day intensive course which will lead you into a world of creativity and design. Traditional floristry methods are left at the door and instead there is a strong focus to guide students on their own individual journey to become the best floral designer they can be.

The course will supply with you all the techniques, a wealth of knowledge, business ideas, suppliers details and top tips to get you going on your floristry journey. Everything during this weeks course is taught with sustainable methods.

There is a strong focus on colour collaborations and textures. You will work with the very best of flowers, locally grown and from Holland.

As well as individual practical work, we will work as a group to create large installations. There will be lots of photograph opportunities!

As way as practical work there is a strong focus on theory too. We cover planning an event, budgeting, working with wholesalers, eco friendly methods, and so much more.

Each session begins with a friendly chat, a demonstration where we teach you the relevant techniques, with a few tricks along the way. We will discuss seasonal flowers, colour palettes and composition.

Everyone is supplied with a Flourish Sussex Flower School notebook and a cut flower guide book. You will be sent course notes after completion along with final images of you working to use in your portfolio.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone that is passionate about flowers and possibly wants to enter the industry in some format or for those seeking to learn sustainable methods.

• There will also be a demonstration on how to create a double ended coffin spray.

• We will also take a trip to a local flower farm.

Do you cover any theory?

Yes! We dedicate a whole afternoon to theory, but we would always recommend coming on our Business Masterclass if you are wanting to enter the industry.

THEORY SKILLS

• We will teach you about wholesalers. A list of suppliers to get you going will be given.

• Eco friendly. We will look at eco friendly methods; including British flowers vs Holland.

• Conducting a funeral consultation.

• Flowers throughout the seasons.

• Sundries, where to source.

• Tips for social media.

• Tips to create a website.

What flowers do you provide?

We provide all flowers and foliage. We use a combination of British flowers, when in season and from Holland.

Do you teach with sustainable methods?

Yes! Here at Flourish Sussex Flower School you won’t find any floral foam. We will show you how to use eco friendly methods and provide you with lots of information so you can continue to use sustainable methods in your work.

Anything else I need to know?

Once you have completed the course you become part of our wonderful Flourish community of florists and growers. We will invite you to join our private Facebook group where advice is shared, questions can be asked and work experience arranged.
